William C. Johnson, 91, died Nov. 16, 2012.
He was born in Valley Stream N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach. During World War II, he served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in the Battle of Guam and the Bronze Star for bravery.
He was active in his community of Sea Oaks, volunteering on committees to preserve beaches and serving as chairman of the Indian River County Utilities Committee.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1943, where he was a member of the track team.
Survivors include his companion, Dorothy; daughter, Jennifer; sons, Tony, Corry, Michael and Patrick; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew.
