Local band and Military Moms send goodies to troops

SEBASTIAN — On Saturday, Nov. 24, the Hari Kari Rock Band will perform at Earl’s Hideaway, located at 1405 Indian River Dr. in Sebastian, from 8:30 pm to 12:30 a.m.

During the show, the band will have a representative from the Military Moms Prayer Group on hand to collect items and pass out “Holidays for Heroes” mailing kits to fill and mail to the troops.

The band is dedicating this show to Cpl. Dale J. Kridlo and Lt. Col. Joseph Trane McCloud; two men with ties to Indian River County who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Dale Kridlo, son of Michelle Dale, was killed November 7, 2010, in Afghanistan. Trane McCloud, son of Roma Anderson, died December 4, 2006, in Iraq. We will be forever grateful for their service.

For its outreach to the troops at Earl’s Hideaway, the Hari Kari Rock Band suggests two ways to help: first, patrons at the performance can pick up a Military Moms mailing kit, which contains a list of recommended items to send; a flat-rate box with customs forms pre-addressed to an individual serviceman or woman, with an instruction sheet. The cost to mail is $13.45.

Secondly, members of the community can shop for items and bring them to Earl’s Hideaway on Saturday night for the Military Moms to mail.

Items our troops want most are: powdered drink mixes (lemonade, Gatorade, Tang, hot chocolate); nuts (mixed nuts, peanuts, trail mix, microwave popcorn); peanut butter (in individual packets); dried fruit/raisins; wet wipes or baby wipes; protein bars and granola bars; meat products (Beef jerky/Slim Jims, canned or foil-wrapped tuna, chicken, corned beef); ramen noodles; Visa or Mastercard gift cards; and socks (black or green.)

Every Christmas and Valentine’s Day the Military Moms Prayer Group ships gift packages to the troops to let them know that they are not forgotten.

Since 2006, more than 8,000 packages from Indian River County have reached the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in time for the holidays.

Please show your support for our troops.
