Why do so many people photograph their food? Is it because they are a proud chef or just weird? Yes, I am included in that odd group as well.
Ever since digital cameras came onto the scene, people have had more of a freedom of creativity. With that, and not having to spend so much money on AA batteries, film, and developing, photographers have been capturing the little things in life.
One main category I’ve noticed is what they eat or cook.
Dominos even had a promotion years ago telling people send them photos of their pizzas.
Maybe it’s just another way to supplement our memory? Or a hobbyist adding photos to their cookbook.
Just a quick check on my Instagram feed revealed a turkey made of a rice treats, a cookie, (what looks to be a fruity cereal), and pretzels. Upon scrolling down, a local health guru posted a photo of grilled Brussels sprouts with curry and grilled chicken with peanut sauce.
Another place to find a large quantity of food pictures is Pinterest, where I just saw posted a cupcake cake and a decadent mug of hot cocoa.
Whatever the reason for risking your camera over a boiling pot of gumbo, America seems to be obsessed with food photography.
Why wouldn’t we be? Other than sleeping, working, and spending time in the bathroom, it is what takes up a major portion of our lives. What to eat, where to eat, do we have food in the house or is it a pizza night?
So, happy clicking, make those pixels tasty.
