VERO BEACH — The Mardy Fish Foundation fundraising event schedule has been revised. The tennis exhibition and other tennis activities scheduled for the week of Dec. 3 have been canceled as USA tennis star Mardy Fish continues recovery from a heart condition.
Mardy Fish, formerly #1 ranked tennis player in the U.S. and former resident of Vero Beach, started the Mardy Fish Foundation five years ago to fulfill a need that he saw in Indian River County, which was to provide children with enrichment, health, and fitness programs in a safe, after-school environment.
The foundation has partnered with the school district of Indian River County to provide after-school “Achievable Dreams” programs in all 13 elementary schools as well as launch “Kids on Courts,” a beginner tennis program in the county.
“The children we serve and their families rely on us every day. I am looking forward to coming home to Vero Beach in December with my wife Stacey to participate in the Windsor golf and holiday party events that will allow us to continue to grow our foundation’s mission and programs.
We have set a $500,000 fundraising goal this year, and we are confident we can achieve it with the events and our yearly campaign plan,” Mardy stated.
One hundred percent of the money raised will be invested back into Vero Beach and the Indian River County schools.
“Our foundation is all about the kids. We are excited to see our organization grow in 2013. Stacey and I will always be there for the children of Indian River County; and in times of increased need, it is more important than ever that we keep open the doors in 13 elementary schools and 3 middle schools for the 1900 kids we serve,” added Mardy.
“I’d like to thank everyone in Indian River County, including the USTA and sponsors Dale Sorensen Real Estate, the Indian River Medical Center, George E. Warren Corporation, and the school district for supporting the foundation’s 77 programs we sponsor in the 13 elementary schools,” said Fish.
