Jerome Alexander Walker, 89, Vero Beach

Jerome Alexander Walker, 89, died Oct. 31, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

He was born in Bellmore, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from Naples.

Before retirement, he was an executive for several retail department store chains in New York and later owned hotels and restaurants in Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

He served in the Army during World War II as an artillery officer and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

He retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel.

He was a member of the American Legion.

He was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Vero Beach.

He attended City College, New York City.

Survivors include his daughters, Maryellen Walker-Jacks, of Concord, Mass., Nanci Walker, of West Hollywood, Calif., Linda Coulombe, of Atlanta and Geraldine Walker McGloin, of Nantucket, Mass.; sister, Doris Smith, of Palm Bay; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nanci Walker, in 2005.
