VERO BEACH — To herald in October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Indian River Medical Center is offering its third annual ‘Break for Breast Cancer Breakfast On-the-Go’ event on Friday, Oct. 12, from 7 to 9 a.m.
The first 500 people who drive through the entrance loop at the Cancer Center at IRMC will receive a free continental breakfast to go, including donated Einstein Bros Bagels’ pink cranberry bagels. Greeted by nurses wearing hot pink T-shirts and boas, participants will also receive educational information about breast cancer, a commemorative breast cancer pen, and a pink lunch tote.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. The chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman’s life is a little less than 1 in 8. About 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2012, according to the American Cancer Society.
IRMC’s cancer program of diagnostics, surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, medical management and outreach is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
Directions to IRMC’s Cancer Center: From U.S. 1 in Vero Beach, turn east on 37th Street, go to the first stop light (N.W. 10th Street) and turn right. The hospital will be on the right. Go past the main entrance of the hospital and the Cancer Center is the first building on the right.
