Dorothea Rice Browning, 96, died Aug. 23, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
She was born in Plainfield, N.J., and spent much of her life there and in nearby Englewood before retirement in Lakehurst.
She then moved to Indian River Estates in Vero Beach, where she lived the last decade of her life.
She graduated with degrees from Smith College and Rutgers University.
She taught elementary school for 24 years in Plainfield and Teaneck, N.J.
She was a director of a travel club and a member of The Community Church of Vero Beach and PEO, a philanthropic educational organization.
Survivors include her twin daughters, Susan Christman, of Alexandria, Va., and Nancy Freiheit, of Vero Beach; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Browning; and brothers, Charles Rice and Roland Draper Rice.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 4 in the all-purpose meeting room at Indian River Estates East.
