Deputies arrest North Carolina fugitive

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff’s deputies swooped in an arrested a North Carolina fugitive Friday after getting a tip that the 29-year-old was hiding here.

On Sept. 17, the Southern Pine Police Department sent out an alert that Kovacs Kieron “Shaggy” Troutman was wanted on attempted murder charges after they claim he shot a Southern Pines man multiple times while the man was sitting in a parked car five days earlier.

A tip to officers in Southern Pines last week drew the search for Troutman south in Indian River County.

Troutman was spotted as a passenger in a vehicle as it just left a convenience store near Highlands and U.S. 1 roads at 1 p.m. Friday. After pulling the vehicle over, Troutman was taken into custody without incident. The driver of the car was not arrested on any charges.

Detectives in North Carolina are making arrangements for Troutman’s extradition.
