Florida City Gas turned off the gas while police closed the plaza for more than an hour. Two people who were traveling in an Acura sports utility vehicle had minor injuries, said David Rattray, deputy chief with Indian River County Fire Rescue. There were no occupants in the other automobile - a Ford Expedition truck - which was parked. Police and Indian River County Fire Rescue responded to reports of the Acura striking the parked truck about 1:13 p.m. in the parking lot of Sunshine Laundry Centers, located in the Treasure Coast Plaza just east of 6th Avenue and north of 20th Street. The plaza is located south of the Miracle Mile Plaza. The SUV's driver tried to drive through a space between the building and the Ford when it struck the front of the truck, Callahan said. The SUV also ran over two small, yellow poles and struck the gas meter located just outside of the laundromat. Patrons reported strong smells of gas. Police evacuated nearby businesses including Sunshine Laundry Centers, AAA, Milan Laser Hair Removal, Great Clips, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, Publix Liquors, Space Coast Credit Union, LensCrafters and Ulta Beauty, Callahan said. The plaza was reopened shortly after 2:20 p.m. The occupants of the Acura were taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Rattray said. "(The gas) currently has been turned off and the air has been tested by the Indian River County Fire Rescue. It's safe to resume normal operations," Callahan said. Photos by Joshua Kodis [gallery ids="221274,221275,221276,221277,221278"]
