Alert Sebastian resident helps police nab 2 accused burglars

SEBASTIAN — An alert citizen of Sebastian contacted the Sebastian Police Department after seeing two suspects dressed in dark clothing and black hoodies with string backpacks burglarizing vehicles just after 2 a.m. Friday, police spokesman Officer Steve Marcinik said.

The suspects fled upon the arrival of the patrol units and K9 officers. The responding officers pursued the suspects as they fled on foot.

One suspect, identified as 26-year-old Samuel Neil Gray, was eventually located after being tracked by the police canine. Gray resisted officer commands and was subsequently apprehended by the canine.

He was then transported to the emergency room and treated for the associated injuries. Gray was later transported to the Indian River County Jail where he is currently being held on charges of felony burglary, grand theft, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

The Sebastian Police Department received another call regarding a suspicious person in the 600 block of Brush Foot Drive. The suspicious person’s description was generally consistent with the suspect that officers were looking for.

Numerous patrol and K9 officers converged in the area and located the second suspect who was identified as Zackary Taylor Reynolds, 19.

Reynolds, whose appearance was disheveled from running through woods and canals, was apprehended without further incident. He faces charges of felony burglary and grand theft.

The investigation is ongoing as officers are attempting to locate additional victims of items that were recovered from the two suspects. Additional charges are pending the result of the continuing investigation.

The Sebastian Police Department encourages residents to contact the department if they observe any suspicious persons or vehicles.
