INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — According to a message on the Indian River School District’s website, public schools will be in session tomorrow.
The message reads, “a stationary rain band over the Treasure Coast today caused unexpected strong winds, flooding and even tornados (sic) up and down the coast.”
The weather will be back to a more typical summer pattern, says the message.
“Keeping your child safe is our top priority,” the message from the Superintendent of Schools continues.

It has been quite a day. As you are fully aware, a stationary rain band over the Treasure Coast today caused unexpected strong winds, flooding and even tornados up and down the coast.
The 4:00pm forecast from the Emergency Operations Center notes that the heaviest rain has moved off shore, but we can expect another 1-2 inches over the next 6 hours.
Tomorrow the forecast calls for our more typical summer pattern of showers and thundershowers – with a 60% chance of rain.
When the unexpected happens we must rely on each other to make the best of a bad situation. Keeping your child safe is our top priority. Thank you to everyone at our schools for working together on this very windy, rainy day.
