Edgar P. York, 96, Vero Beach

Edgar P. York, 96, died July 8, 2012, at Horizon Bay Vibrant Retirement Living, Vero Beach.

He was born in York Township, Darke County, Ohio, and moved to Port St. Lucie in 1974 and then to Vero Beach in 1990.

He graduated from Ansonia High School in 1934.

He joined Frigidaire and later Aeroproducts, then divisions of General Motors.

He founded York Electric Inc. in 1946, which became one of the largest electrical contractors in western Ohio.

In 1958, he was elected to the board of governors of the National Electrical Contractors Association, a position he held for six years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Tawasi Club, Lions Club, Dayton Power Squadron, Sons of the American Revolution and The Community Church of Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Keitha York; son, E. Malcolm York, of Vero Beach; daughter, Melanie Anne Metzler, of Aiken, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. July 16 at Greenville Union Cemetery in Greenville Ohio.

A celebration of life service will be conducted in the chapel at The Community Church of Vero Beach at a time to be announced during the week of July 22.
