William F. Powers, 85, died July 8, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in New York City and lived in Vero Beach for 16 years, coming from East Brunswick, N.J.
Before retirement, he worked as a mechanic.
He served in the Army as a B.A.R. carrier during World War II.
He was a life member of the East Brunswick Independent Fire Co.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gloria Powers; sons, Thomas J. Powers, of Chester, Va., and William A. Powers, of Vero Beach; brothers, Francis Powers, of New York City and John Powers, of Gainesville, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. July 11 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at noon July 12 at Saint Helen Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery.
