INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The District 5 seat on the Board of County Commissioners covers much of the barrier island from the south county line to the Town of Orchid and a portion of the mainland on the west side of the City of Vero Beach, east of US 1.
The 4-year-term seat is currently held by Bob Solari, who is seeking re-election. He faces two challengers for the seat, including Brian Heady and Nick Thomas.
The Board of County Commissioners is tasked with setting the budget and policy for Indian River County and oversees the Constitutional Officers – the Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Supervisor of Elections.
Commissioners’ salaries are $56,123. The county budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year is $307,016,941.
