Thomas P. Lever, 69, died May 20, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Astoria, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 18 years, coming from Riverhead, N.Y.
He was a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Regional School in Riverhead.
He served in the Navy and was involved in the blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He served as a sheriff’s deputy with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years before his retirement in 1994 as a lieutenant.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Barbara Lever, of Vero Beach; sons, Eddie Lever, of Vero Beach and Gregory Lever, of California; daughter, Allissa Phillips, of Riverhead; brother, Joseph Lever, of Hampton Bays, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 3375 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. May 23 at Strunk Funeral Home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. May 24 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, with Rev. A.C. “Jack” Diehl III officiating.
Interment will be in South Florida National Cemetery, Lakeworth.
