Volunteers help Humane Society’s Memorial Garden bloom

VERO BEACH —  The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVBIRC) thanks the John’s Island Garden Group, Aiello Landscape, Youth on a Mission, and volunteer Dick Turnbull for helping the shelter renovate its Memorial Garden.

Thanks to donations of money, time, and talent the shelter’s garden now has new stonework, plants, shrubs, and mulch. The project was facilitated by John’s Island Garden Club President Mrs. G. Jeff Mennen, Martha Lincoln and Ann Kelsey and coordinated by the Humane Society’s Director of Animal Protection Ilka Daniel.

Originally donated by the Oberkotter family, The Humane Society’s Memorial Garden is designed to provide members of the community with a quiet place for contemplation and is located adjacent to the shelter’s chapel.

“We are deeply indebted to everyone who helped. We now have a beautiful and peaceful area for reflection,” Daniel said.
