Humane Society holds pet trust seminar April 10

VERO BEACH—  The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVBIRC) is hosting a Pet Trust seminar on Tuesday, April 10, from 10-11 a.m. The event will be held at the shelter’s Adoption and Education Center located at 6230 77th St. in Vero Beach.

The presentation’s featured speakers are Vero Beach attorney Jennifer Peshke of the law firm of Jennifer Peshke, P.A. and HSVBIRC Director of Development Tim Swift.

Peshke will discuss various legal techniques to make certain companion animals receive proper care after the disability or death of their caretaker. Swift will cover information about the shelter’s Pet Guardian program.

Since the Humane Society often houses animals when a pet parent becomes debilitated or dies, the Pet Guardian program gives people the ability to inform the shelter of their pet care directives in advance of an emergency.

“Understanding state pet trust laws and making certain your wishes are in writing are the best ways to ensure the proper care of your pets if you cannot care for them yourself”, explained Swift.

The seminar is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served.

For more information or to reserve seating at the event, please call (772) 388-3331 ext. 26.
