INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 17, than by “going green” at the Pelican Island Wildlife Festival at Riverview Park, Sebastian, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Pelican Island Preservation Society (PIPS) is sponsoring its 20th annual celebration of the nation’s first wildlife refuge as set aside by Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. Come celebrate with our M.C. Joe Wiegand in Teddy Roosevelt garb and interact with our environmental exhibitors, live animals, and touch tanks.
Exhibiting partners include the Environmental Learning Center, Smithsonian, Treasure Coast Wildlife Center, River Explorer, and Florida Outdoor Center. Live music, food, and green beer will be featured, along with pontoon boat and kayak tours on the Indian River Lagoon.
Raffle tickets will be sold all day at the PIPS booth with the top prize being a wooden kayak handcrafted by Mike Beck. Most importantly, recyclable PIPS water bottles will be sold at the PIPS booth so that festival-goers can fill up throughout the day, courtesy of Affordable Water.
“We are discouraging plastic water bottles as part of our ‘going green’ campaign to keep plastics out of our oceans,” organizers said.
Educate yourself on environmental matters by engaging in discourse with staff from our Florida wildlife refuges. Let’s all come together and celebrate our precious local legacy – Pelican Island.
