Robert Wier III, Vero Beach

Robert Wier III died Jan. 16, 2012, with his family at his side.

He was born October 1919 in Wilmington Memorial Hospital.

A resident of Wilmington, he graduated from Wilmington High School and from Yale University class of 1941 as a chemical engineer.

At Yale, he was a member of St. Elmo’s Society, the Aurelian Society and ASCE.

For over three decades, he worked for Hercules (Powder) Co. including positions in Hopewell, Va.; Chicago, Ill.; and Cleveland, Ohio.

After retiring from Hercules, he was VP at Monckman Rumsey.

His volunteer leadership roles as a warden on the vestry of Christ Church, and as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tatnall School, as well as his service on the Boards of Ingleside (Episcopal Church Home), Kenneth Pike Association and Limen House(s) exemplified his strong faith and concern for his community.

After retiring, they spent their winters in Vero Beach where he was a dedicated volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Indian River.

He was a member of the Vicmead Hunt Club and Riomar Country Club.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia Walker Wier; three daughters and sons-in-law March and Perry Pepper, of Gladwyne, Pa.; Valerie and Bud Lee, of Greenville, Del.; and Ginna and Jay Waddell, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Buck Road, Greenville, Del.
