Indian River County voters overwhelmingly support Romney

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River County voters have overwhelmingly selected former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to be the Republican Presidential nominee in Florida’s Republican Presidential Preference Primary. Romney beat out former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich by a nearly 2 to 1 margin.

Romney garnered 11,936 votes in Indian River County, with Gingrich trailing with 6,050.

Santorum took 2,657 votes and Ron Paul received 1,213 votes.

Fifty delegates were at stake in Florida. Leading into the Florida primary, Romney, Gingrich and Santorum have each won a primary.

Florida’s primary has nine candidates listed, including Michele Bachman, Herman Cain, Jon Huntsman and Rick Perry, who all previously bowed out of the Republican race for the U.S. Presidency.
