VERO BEACH — As the Chefs participating in Vero’s Top Chef Challenge are hard at work perfecting their entries for the Qualifying Event on Monday, Jan. 30 a new contestant has stepped into the competition.
Chef Fernando Pons of La Bodeguita de Vero is the newest participating chef. Chef Pons participation was made possible as a result of Dockside Grill’s withdrawal from the event due to Chef Overstreet’s recent departure from the restaurant. La Bodeguita de Vero specializes in authentic Cuban cuisine and is located at 40 43rd Avenue in Vero Beach.
At the Qualifying Event, Monday, Jan.30 at the Vero Beach Elks Lodge #1774, local Chefs will prepare small tastes of their most creative cuisine for 300 guests to sample as they compete for the attendee’s votes. Guests will be asked to cast their vote for the Chef that they believe prepared the best culinary creation.
Four Chefs will advance to the Challenge Finale. New this year is a Dessert Competition. The event starts at 6 p.m.
