Joseph Serafin, 82, died Nov. 12, 2011, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and lived in Sebastian for 29 years, coming from Alexandria, Va.
He retired from the Alexandria Virginia Police Department and worked as a security guard at Grand Harbor, Windsor, Vero Beach Museum of Art and Indian River Medical Center.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church, Sebastian, and the Henry Knox Masonic Lodge in Virginia.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Mindy Serafin, of Sebastian; son, Michael Riggs, of Vero Beach; brother, Arsane Serafin, of Fredericksburg, Va.; and sisters, Betty Garafano, of Warwick, R.I., and Elaine Paylor, of Arlington, Va.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew, John, Michael and Stephen; and sister, Anne Stevens.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 15 at First Presbyterian Church, Sebastian, with the Rev. Eleanor B. Lea officiating.
