FELLSMERE — Fellsmere Mayor Susan Adams and Councilwoman Sara Savage will serve another two years on the City Council, 10 percent of the city’s voters – 108 – decided. The incumbents handily won their seats back on the council, beating first-time challenger John Luke.
Luke received 25 votes, while Adams earned 88 and Savage garnered 83.
Alberto DeLeon Jr., who dropped out of the race prior to the election, received seven votes. He had dropped out after it was too late to remove his name from the ballot, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.
“The stress is over,” Adams said when reached Tuesday night, adding that she was happy with the results of the municipal election.
“It sends a strong message that they are happy with the direction we are heading in,” Adams said of the voters’ approval of both her and Savage.
With another two years to serve on the council, Adams said she wants to work on bringing more businesses to the city so residents don’t have to leave to buy items they want.
Savage could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
Luke expressed disappointment, not only in the lack of votes Tuesday but the lack of voter turnout.
“People in Fellsmere just don’t get out and vote,” he said. “Evidently, they don’t care what goes on out there.”
Luke has not yet decided if he will make another run at the Fellsmere City Council next year.
“I’ll think it over,” he said.
