INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Gifford Youth Activity Center’s motto is “Combining Education With Recreation.” Reading is a basic skill and requires practice and diligence.
The After School Program needs reading mentors to work one-on-one with students to improve their word recognition, vocabulary and comprehension. Mentors will read to children as well as listening to the children read selected books.
Successful readers perform better in all subjects at school; not just Language Arts. Reading skills are important in Science, History and Social Studies as well as Math. Being a reading mentor is an opportunity to be a part of a student’s success.
The Gifford Youth Activity Center is a United Way Agency, located at 4875 43rd Avenue in Vero Beach.
