2 women arrested for helping escaped inmate Taylor

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two women were arrested Monday night, accused of helping escaped convicted murder flee Indian River County, the Sheriff’s Office said. The women met Leviticus Taylor outside the jail around 2:30 a.m. Monday and drove him south to Stuart.

Taylor was eventually located in Jensen Beach and taken into custody. Another inmate, accused murderer Rondell Reed is still on the loose.

The women, identified as Taylor’s girlfriend, Sadie Welker, and friend, Angela Pike, told investigators during questioning Monday evening that they had arranged to meet Taylor multiple days prior to the successful jailbreak. They waited for him outside the jail on Oct. 21, 22 and 23, but he did not show, they said.

When Taylor showed up Monday morning at the Pinnacle Grove Apartment complex, the women drove him south to Stuart, they told investigators, and eventually left him in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart.

According to authorities, Pike made calls trying to get a bus ticket for Taylor to leave Florida and head to New Jersey.

The Sheriff’s Office will be holding a press conference at 10:30 a.m. to provide more information about the latest developments.
