INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The man who had been sitting in the Indian River County Jail for the last six months awaiting trial on a murder charge and escaped from the jail Monday morning is now the full focus of the Sheriff’s Office’s effort to recapture.
“We feel he is a danger to society,” Sheriff Deryl Loar said Tuesday afternoon, of now-52-year-old Rondell Reed.
The Sheriff’s Office has bolstered its 911 service to handle the increase in calls coming in from tipsters who provide leads investigators are tracking down.
Sheriff Loar said that new leads come in every hour and they are being followed through.
“We feel very confident we’re making progress,” he said, not elaborating on the content of the tips coming in.
The Sheriff’s Office released two images of Reed showing him with a mustache in one and a goatee in the other. It also released a list of the nine tattoos Reed has, including a spider on his right hand and a pirate on his left wrist, among others.
“Our primary focus today is Rondell Reed,” Sheriff Loar said.
While Reed remains at-large, his fellow escapee, Leviticus Taylor, 25, sits in solitary confinement under close supervision at the Indian River County Jail after being apprehended Monday evening.
The jail, itself, has been placed on modified lock down pending the outcome of the investigation into the jailbreak.
Anyone with information regarding Reed’s whereabouts is encouraged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477.
