Weekend Winners – Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The weather

forecast for the weekend isn’t the best, but don’t let that stop

you from getting out into the community to have some fun. A

Latin-themed Saturday is planned for the Sebastian Municipal

Airport with a special LoPresti Aviation breakfast and a

fund-raising festival for Sebastian Charter Junior High. Other

events include the CrossLife Family Jamboree, an Oceanside concert

in Vero Beach and the Tour de Vero.

  • Intrepid Art Gallery Golden Seeds exhibition, by Venezuelan

    sculptor Carolina Rojas.

  • Gallery 14 presents It’s Time to “UNWINED”: Watercolors by

    Colleen Nash Becht.

  • European Doorways exhibition of works by Judy Burgarella at the

    Artists Guild Gallery.

Thursday

  • Scottish Society is hosting a showing of Mary Queen of Scots,

    4:30 p.m. at the Majestic Theatre in Vero Beach.

  • Connected 4 Kids Coalition of IRC (C4K) is hosting a free

    Parenting Workshops on Literacy. As a bonus, free childcare for all

    ages is provided as well as free dinner. Learn how to cultivate

    literacy from birth to adulthood, with presentations by Literacy

    Services, The Learning Alliance, and Barbara Brooks of Read to

    Babies. Workshop is from 6 to 7:30 pm; dinner from 5:30 to 6

    p.m.

  • Sean Sexton Poetry Reading, 7 p.m. at Tiger Lily Art Studios

    and Gallery. Pottery, Poetry and other Things exhibit continues

    through Oct. 8.

Friday

  • Downtown Dine & Design (3D) District Gallery Stroll, 5 to 8

    p.m. with many opening night receptions, along 14th Avenue and

    beyond.

Saturday

  • LoPresti LSA Holiday/Salsa Fly-in at the City of Sebastian

    Municipal Airport, an all-day event coinciding with the Latin

    Festival, starting with breakfast, seminars, flour bombing and spot

    landing competition. Come for the airplanes but stay for the

    music.

  • Free Latin Festival, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the City of Sebastian

    Municipal Airport, featuring Adlan Cruz Orchestra, Latin dance

    performances, cuisine and culture to benefit the Sebastian Charter

    Junior High School.

  • Farmer’s Market Oceanside, 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of

    Ocean Drive and Dahlia Lane, across from Humiston Park.

  • CrossLife Family Jamboree, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Indian

    River County Fairgrounds, with a full day of activities,

    entertainment and food, flea market and 55+ Dance Contest 6-8 pm in

    the exposition building. Free admission/parking.

  • Blessing of the Pets, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth’s

    Church in Sebastian, with bounce house, face painting, food, games

    and local vendors.

  • Oceanside Business Association Sunset Saturday Night Concert

    Series with Category 5 and the Storms Horns Band, 6:30- 9:30 pm at

    Humiston Park with the theme – Pay It Forward Lindy Hop!

  • The Sebastian Inlet State Park Night Sounds concert, 7 – 9

    p.m., will feature Chris Kastle, a musician, storyteller and

    songsmith.

Sunday

  • Tour de Vero 2011 hosted by the Vero Beach Fire Fighters

    Association, to honor fallen Fire Chief and cyclist Brian Nolan and

    raise awareness of Coronary Arterial Disease. Depart and return to

    the River House, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Distances of 33, 66 and 100 miles

    available. 

  • Main Street Vero Beach Sunday (Farmers) Market located at the

    corner of 14th Avenue & 21st Street is open from 10 a.m. to 3

    p.m.
