Daniel Francis Melia, 87, died Oct. 22, 2011, at his residence in Sebastian.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Sebastian for 32 years, coming from Long Island, N.Y.
He retired after 30 years of service from the New York City Fire Department as deputy chief.
He served in the Navy during the World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church and the Sebastian Municipal Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Melia; brother, Thomas Melia; and sister, Margaret Hall.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Melia, of Sebastian, Jim Melia, of Melbourne, Thomas Melia, of Massapequa, N.Y., Steve Melia, of Wilmington, Del., and Daniel Melia Jr., of Rockville Centre, N.Y.; daughters, Mary Melia, of Wilmington, N.C. and Eileen McElwee, of Indialantic; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian, with a 6 p.m. prayer service in the chapel.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 24 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father Ducasse Francois.
Burial will be at Sebastian Cemetery.
