Ruby Lee (Callaway) Korman, 78, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Sept. 24, 2011, at Odyssey Hospice Harbor House after a long illness.
She was born in Commerce, Ga., on Aug. 19, 1933, to Arnold and Lizzie Callaway.
While working in Atlanta in 1951, she met her husband-to-be, Bruce J. Korman, who was in military school with the U.S. Army.
They were happily married in Albert Lea, Minn. April 4, 1952.
They had one son, Bruce Jr., and later their daughter, AAlison (Moore).
Before moving to Las Vegas, they lived in Fellsmere, Fla. for almost 30 years, where she was very active with the community.
She was a member of the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, chairwoman of Fellsmere Beautification Committee, president of the Fellsmere Library Association, vice mayor of Fellsmere, The Red Hats Gang, City Council Woman for the Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival and did multiple fundraisers and numerous other volunteer work for her community.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Sr.; son, Bruce Jr. and his wife, Catherine; daughter, Alison and her husband, Patric Moore; five grandchildren, Tina, Eric, Shane, Hunter and Raven, varying in ages from 33 to five; three stepgrandchildren Jackie, Josh and Christian; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Shiner and Nell Ohler; brother, Arnold Callaway and his wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Marvel Huper and her husband, Willie; sister-in-law, Diana Burns; brother-in-law, Gaylord Korman and wife, Betty; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruby is preceded in death by her mother; father; and sisters, Louise, Shirley and Jessie Mae.
No services will be held.
