James Russell Bowers died on Sept. 17, 2011, in Danbury, Conn., after a long illness.
He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
“Russ” Bowers was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on Nov. 9, 1926.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Corcoran Bowers.
Russ and Mary moved to Sebastian in retirement in 1993.
After Mary’s passing, Russ married Camille Laughlin, of Sebastian.
Bowers was a World War II Naval veteran and was a longtime employee and executive of Walter S. Johnson Construction Co. in Niagara Falls.
After moving to Florida, he became an active member of the Elks Lodge and was a devoted volunteer for The Lords Table Soup Kitchen.
He was a parishioner of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
Survivors include his six children: Elizabeth Matteson, Margaret Polizzi, Patricia Bowers and her husband Dave Houlbrooke, Nancy Hoyt and her husband Jim, James R. Bowers, Jr. and his wife Dympna, and Barbara Bowers; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private burial is planned in Niagara Falls, NY at the family’s convenience.
