ICU patient, visitor overdose after man brings cocaine, pills into hospital

SEBASTIAN — Authorities are working to bring additional charges against a man they said brought drugs into a hospital last weekend, causing him and the woman he was visiting to overdose. Deputies said Forrest Cameron Smith brought 26 grams of powdered cocaine and 47 alprazolam pills to Sebastian River Medical Center. "He showed up at the hospital with basically his own pharmacy," Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers said during a news conference Monday. "(The woman) was being taken care of in ICU. Deputies: Tuesday night shootout sends bullets into houses, vehicles

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Security footage captured two suspects running and shooting at each other inside a residential area late Tuesday, blasting bullets into homes and vehicles nearby, sheriff's officials said. Now, deputies are asking anyone with information on the incident or the individuals involved to come forward. "There were no injuries to anyone inside the houses," said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. The late-night shooting led deputies to close the roads for about three hours, Jaworski said. Man charged in stabbing woman, requiring surgery

VERO BEACH — A 34-year-old man was jailed after a beating and stabbing that left a woman with severe injuries requiring surgery earlier this week, officers said. Police reviewed surveillance footage and described the incident as a vicious, unprovoked attack. "After speaking with medical staff, it was reported that (the victim) received treatment for four lacerations to the lower intestines, two lacerations to the colon and the removal of her spleen," Vero Beach police said in a report. The woman, along with police, identified the suspect as Trayvious Lewis Hullett, who was in a relationship with the woman, reports show.
