SEBASTIAN — The pavilion once planned for the south end of Riverview Park’s “event” park along the water has finally found a new, permanent home at Schumann Park.
With little debate or discussion, the Sebastian City Council unanimously approved putting the pavilion on the south side of what is currently a restroom facility at Schumann Park.
That restroom is expected to be demolished in the months ahead after a new restroom is built elsewhere in the park.
The Parks and Recreation committee had recommended with a 4-2 vote Schumann Park over Creative Playground, located near the Barber Street Sports Complex.
The pavilion’s cost of $26,000 is expected to come from Recreation Impact Fees, a fee developers pay as they build new homes or commercial properties in the city.
Vice Mayor Don Wright applauded the committee’s work in finding an alternate location for the pavilion. He said that after the city got moving on improving the park, the tennis players there had been seeking additional shade.
Wright said the committee did a good job recognizing the need for shade there.
After the unanimous approval of the pavilion, committee member John Tenerowicz said he was happy the issue had been resolved and that it wasn’t punted back to the committee again.
