Weekend Winners – Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The summer is heating up and so are the weekends. The North County Library will play host to HALO Animal Rescue Friday, nature-lovers will be cleaning up the waterways Saturday, and nautical enthusiasts can score deals at the annual flea market Sunday.

Ongoing

  • Vero Beach Museum of Art Summer Art Camp for children ages 4 to 16, offering a choice of 65 morning and afternoon classes in eight week-long sessions.
  • Photographic Art Exhibit “Our Natural World” to benefit the Environmental Learning Center at the Gallery of Hope.org in the Theatre Plaza building in Downtown Vero Beach.
  • Intrepid Art Gallery Summer Group show, curated by Silvia Medina features nine local and international artists.
  • The Sebastian River Art Club presents exotic Chinese watercolor paintings by member Thelma Koopman through July at Inlet Wines in Sebastian.

Thursday

  • Leslie McGuirk presents her new book, If Rocks Could Sing – A Discovered Alphabet, at 5 p.m. in the Vero Beach Book Center Children’s Store.
  • Casual summer social at the Kilted Mermaid with bagpiper and Scottish music, 5:30 p.m. hosted by the Scottish Society of the Treasure Coast.
  • Mulligan’s Fun in the Sun to benefit Little Smiles, and the Environmental Learning Center. From 5 – 8 p.m. kids eat free and 20% of proceeds are donated to charity.
  • Liberty Forum of Indian River County monthly Constitution Forum Discussion, 6:30 p.m. at the Vero Beach Community Center.

Friday

  • H.A.L.O, a no-kill animal shelter in Sebastian, will be visiting the North Indian River County Library with some of their rescued animals from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Friday to Sunday

  • Riverside Children’s Theatre’s Summer Stage presents The Wiz, a fresh spin to the classic tale of “The Wizard of Oz,” at the Anne Morton Theatre. Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday

  • Farmer’s Market Oceanside, 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of Ocean Drive and Dahlia Lane, across from Humiston Park.
  • Treasure Coast Annual Waterway Cleanup – do your part to help clean up the Indian River Lagoon.
  • Book signing at Shells and Things on Ocean drive, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. features authors Marianne Berkes and Mara Uman Hixon.
  • Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU is hosting a Special Film Presentation of “This is Your Ocean: Sharks” at 2 and 7 p.m. Three of the world’s top artists will shatter your perception of sharks.
  • Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU is offering a Kayak Tour at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge from 8:15 to 10:15 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday

  • Treasure Coast Marine Flea Market & Seafood Fest, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Indian River County, will feature exhibits and marine related merchandise and services, music and seafood.
