Robert S. Coldwell, of Vero Beach, formerly of Old Greenwich and Darien, Conn., died after a long illness on June 23, 2011 at Royal Palm Health Care.
The son of the late Everett S. and Charlotte Bates Coldwell, of Bronxville, New York, he was born in New York City.
He was educated in New York, Yonkers and Bronxville public schools, graduating from Bronxville High School 1945.
Immediately after graduation, Coldwell entered the U.S. Army, serving with the 508th Parachute Infantry during the German occupation.
Upon discharge, he entered Amherst College, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi.
Recalled to active duty at the outbreak of the Korean War, he served with the 38th Infantry, 2nd Division in that country in 1950 and 1951, with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Returning to Amherst he graduated in 1952 and then continued his studies at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, receiving an M.B.A. in Industrial Management in 1954.
After ten years in various manufacturing and financial management positions with several major American corporations, he entered the management consulting profession.
Assignments took him to long-term residences in the Middle East, the United Kingdom, Europe, South America, Africa and the Indo-Pakistan sub-continent.
At the time of his death he was working independently, consulting to small American manufacturers and occasionally taking short- term projects in the Third World.
Survivors include his brother, C. William Coldwell, of Mystic, Conn.; four nephews; eight grand-nephews; and grandnieces.
His marriage in the 1970s ended in divorce.
