Patricia Carolyn Shutack, 82, Vero Beach

Patricia Carolyn Shutack, 82, died May 16, 2011, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

She was born in Hoboken, N.J., and was a winter resident of Vero Beach for 20 years, coming from Burr Ridge, Ill.

She was a life trustee of the Providence St. Mel School and a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Hinsdale, Ill., and The Moorings Club in Vero Beach.

She graduated from Purdue University.

Survivors include her husband, John Shutack; children, Kathleen McDonnell, Mary Duffy-Pelzer, Daniel Duffy, David Shutack and Nora Duffy; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence St. Mel School, 119 S. Central Park Blvd., Chicago, IL 60624-2998.

A memorial service will be in Chicago later.

Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.

‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
