Indian River Exchangites welcome David Walker

VERO BEACH — David Walker, Merrill Lynch Vice President and Wealth Management Advisor, is the newest member of Exchange Club of Indian River.  Walker, his wife Carol, and their children Catherine and Dean moved to Vero Beach from Miami Shores where he was a fourth generation resident.

A native of Vero Beach, Carol’s stepfather was the late William Wodtke, 1986-87 National Exchange Club president and 1975-76 Florida District president. Mark Ashdown is Walker’s sponsor for membership.

Exchange Club of Indian River meets for lunch at Culinary Capers each Wednesday at noon to enjoy programs on a wide range of professional, government and civic, charity, personal, and business topics. It provides the community with programs in youth activities, service, and Americanism.

Through participation in its national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse, the Exchange Club of Indian River’s Foundation supports local projects for the prevention of child abuse. Funds for projects are raised through the Annual Exchange Club Blue Water Open “Dolphin Mania” Charity Fishing Tournament, held this year on May 21, and the Reverse Raffle each winter.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
