VERO BEACH – The Salvation Army of Indian River County will hold its Annual Benefit Dinner April 8 from 5-8 p.m. at The Oak Harbor Club House.
The dinner will feature Vero Beach resident John Walsh, as its guest speaker.
Walsh is an American television personality, criminal investigator, human and victim rights advocate and the host of America’s Most Wanted.
Walsh is known for his anti-crime activism, which he became involved with following the murder of his son, Adam, in 1981.
Following the crime, the Walsh family founded the Adam Walsh Child Resource Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to legislative reform. The centers, originally located in West Palm Beach, Fla.; Columbia, S.C.; Orange County, Calif.; and Rochester, N.Y, merged with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. with light Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails from the cash bar and dinner followed by John Walsh sharing his inspirational journey and experiences with The Salvation Army over the years throughout the country and locally along with his role with Americas Most Wanted.The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination since 1865.
Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army. Each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children in this community.
About 82 cents of every dollar raised is used to carry out those services in Indian River County.
