Luther A. Askins, 92, died March 21, 2011, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, Fort Pierce.
He was born in Asheville, N.C., and lived in Vero Beach for eight years, coming from Fort Pierce.
Prior to retirement, he was a citrus grower in St. Lucie County and worked as a toolmaker for Piper Aircraft.
He served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary during World War II.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Vero Beach, where he served as an elder.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Charlotte; son, Daniel Askins, of Bolingbrook, Ill.; daughters, Barbara Norman, of Vero Beach and Sheryl Gladin, of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Jean Heuttel; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers David, Melvin and John Askins.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1285 43rd Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. March 30 at Grace Baptist Church, Vero Beach.
Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce will be private.
