William B. McKallip, 85, of Vero Beach, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
McKallip was born June 19, 1925, in Leechburg, Pa.
He has been a resident of Vero Beach since 1981, coming from New York.
McKallip was a high school teacher who taught business courses.
In addition he was the Red Cross swimming instructor for 25 years in the town of East Hampton.
It was here also that he served as a lifeguard for several years.
McKallip was of the Presbyterian faith.
His passions included membership in an antique car club with his 1909 Model T, 1930 Model A and a 1930 Chevrolet Roadster; and golf at Vista Meadows Golf Club.
During World War II, William held the position of a gunner aboard a B29 in the 6th squadron of the Army Air Corps.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Phyllis; daughter, Susan Joy McKallip, of Vero Beach; son, Scott Andrew McKallip, of East Hampton, N.Y.
He is preceded in death by his son, William McKallip Jr.
