INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The final tour in the Indian River County Historical Society’s “Telling Tales” series, scheduled for Saturday, March 19, is actually a double feature. The event begins at 9 am with a cowboy-style Bunkhouse Breakfast. Following the breakfast, participants will caravan to the Treasure Hammock Ranch which has been operated by four generations of Sextons over nearly seven decades. At the ranch, county historian Ruth Stanbridge, along with Mark Tripson and Will Barker, will explain the historical significance of the ranch. The highlight of the tour will be the cowpens, built in 1943 by Waldo Sexton. A unique feature of the cowpens is the Sexton gate, used in conjunction with a dipping vat to protect cattle from disease.
The event is limited to 40 participants; reservations are required.
Tickets are $15 for Historical Society members and $20 for non-members.
For reservations, tickets, directions to the event, or more information, call Hildie Tripson at 562-6790 or the Indian River County Historical Society office at 772/778-3435 or email [email protected].
