Thomas Wade Carey, 90, of Vero Beach, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, in Vero Beach.
Carey was born May 6, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 27 years, moving from Cherry Hill, N.J.
He was a civil engineer, who was instrumental in the start-up of Indian River Habitat for Humanity, as well as many other charitable organizations.
He was one of the founding members of Christ Church, where he sang in the choir.
Carey was a veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corp and then the U.S. Air Force.
His survivors include his wife Jean Carey, of Vero Beach; son Thomas W. Carey, Jr., of Sebastian; daughter Barbara Carey Conlin, of Marlton, N.J.; sister-in-law Helen Wade Carey, of Alexandria Va.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011 at Christ Church in Vero Beach.
