Illah M. Masinick, 88, Vero Beach

Illah M. Masinick, 88, of Vero Beach, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Council Bluffs, Iowa and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1986, coming from Detroit, Michigan.

Masinick was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary (Chris) Peterson, of Vero Beach, Joan (Bob) Gallina, of Carson City, Nev., and Patricia (Joe) Fenwick, of Orlando; sister, Eva (Albert) Beert, of Detroit, MI; aunt, Rose Chandler, of Riverdale, Neb.; sister-in-law, Cassie Gill of Troy, Mich., and six grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2009, Charles Masinick; daughter, Claudia Masinick; son, Kevin Masinick and brother, Leroy Gill.

At the request of the family, services will be private.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Hidden in plain sight’- Estimated $1 to $1.5 mil made in IRC human trafficking cases

Vero Beach Police Chief David Currey said during a Thursday afternoon news conference that the victims were "recruited and threatened." "We won't tolerate it," Currey said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
