Irwin Paul “Red” Grange, 93, died Nov. 20, 2010, at the hospice home in Vero Beach.
Grange was a resident of Sebastian.
He was born to Robert and Florence Grange in Boston, Mass., and grew up in Brighton, Mass., where he excelled in football and track.
He enlisted in the Marines where he was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II.
Upon discharge, he married his sweetheart, Muriel Locke, and they started a family in Massachusetts, which included three children – Paul (Jr.) and the twins Brian and Patricia.
Red worked as an executive for Chrysler Motors for 35 years.
Prior to his retirement, he married Marsha and they relocated to Cape Cod.
Upon Marsha’s death, he moved to Sebastian where he built a home and pursued his passion for golf by joining the Sebastian Golf Club, where he served as treasurer and president.
At 92 years old Red was playing golf as many as three times a week, bragging about his winnings of $6-$8.
Before each new golf match the highlight of his day was his visit to the Eagles Nest restaurant at the course where he was welcomed as a celebrity by all.
As the official bacon tester, he roamed the kitchen, giving and receiving pinches and hugs from his extended family.
Red was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great- grandfather and a respected and admired friend of many.
Survivors include his daughter Patricia; sons Paul and Brian; grandchildren Kimberly and Jennifer; great grandson Cody; his older brother Robert; nephew Harvey and niece Janet.
Red has chosen to be cremated and his last remains to be placed next to his wife Marsha at the National Military cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
In memory of Red, he would ask that you enjoy a beautiful sunrise, raise a toast to a friend, kiss a baby, share a smile and of course, swing a golf club.
