VERO BEACH – The Treasure Coast Crisis Intervention Team has recognized Vero Beach Police Officer Nathan Lazinsky for his actions regarding an incident involving a reportedly armed suspect earlier this year.
Officer Lazinsky successfully took the suspect into custody without further incident and his actions were recognized by the CIT of the Treasure coast as being worthy of their Officer of The Year nomination. The Crisis Intervention Team is a nationally recognized model of law enforcement training and response to people with mental illness who are in crisis.
The primary goal of the CIT is to have specially trained law enforcement officers, through a 40-hour class, respond to individuals with a mental health crisis while ensuring safety for all.
These classes are attended by members of the Vero Beach, Ft. Pierce, and Port St. Lucie Police Departments along with members of the Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin County Sheriff’s Department.
This was the fourth annual Treasure Coast CIT Officer of the Year award and the Vero Beach Police Department is proud to have Officer Lazinsky be this year’s representative.
