VERO BEACH — Indian River County Emergency Management Coordinator Dale Justice addressed members of Exchange Club of Indian River at their October 20 luncheon meeting in honor of Fire Prevention Month. He presented helpful fire safety tips and demonstrated how to use a fire extinguisher, citing the acronym “PASS” – Pull (the pin), Aim (at base of fire), Squeeze (the handle), Spray – to teach this important lifesaving skill.
Exchangites Warren Lewis and Barbara Schlitt Ford practiced using a fire extinguisher that shoots a laser beam at realistic crackling fires simulated by the LED-driven digital flames displayed by the BullsEye electronic training system. The BullsEye, purchased by a grant from the federal Department of Homeland Security, simulates class A, B, and C fires; its electronic controls put out the fire only when the extinguisher is used correctly. Demonstrations of the BullsEye fire safety system by fire inspectors may be arranged for members of the public, such as employee groups, homeowners’ associations, and civic clubs, by contacting Justice at 772-226-1880.
Exchange Club of Indian River meets for lunch at Culinary Capers each Wednesday at noon. Meetings feature programs on a wide range of business, government and civic, charity, personal, and professional topics. It provides the community with programs in youth activities, service, and Americanism.
At the October 20 lunch, Karen Lewis provided a beautiful birthday cake for dessert in honor of husband Warren Lewis’ birthday.
