Stanley A. Francis, 91, of Vero Beach, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at Indian River Estates Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 25, 1918 in Moundsville, W. Va., and moved to Vero Beach in 1986, coming from Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
Francis graduated from Ohio State University in 1947 with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry and within the year, he joined Texaco’s Beacon Research Laboratories in Beacon, N.Y. He retired in 1982 as assistant manager of laboratories after 35 years of employment.
He was a member of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach and a lifelong member of the American Chemical Society.
Francis is survived by two sons, Gary Francis, of Canandaigua, N.Y., and John Francis, of Lodi, N.Y.; sister, Maxine Winstel, of Wheeling, W.Va.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice G. Francis, and son, S. Scott Francis.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church, 1590 27th Ave., Vero Beach.
