Mascot Boot Camp coming to the Vero Beach Sports Village

VERO BEACH.- Vero Beach Sports Village, operated by Minor League Baseball, will become the home of Dave Raymond’s Mascot Boot Camp this February.

“We are thrilled to be working with MiLB and the Vero Beach Sports Village to create mascot training designed to help MiLB teams produce great mascot brands,” David Raymond, the original Phillie Phanatic mascot said. The initial camp in this joint effort between Minor League Baseball and Raymond Entertainment will be held Feb. 25 – 27.

“We have always known that the best mascot programs all have one thing in common…a talented and trained performer,” Raymond said.

His mascot performer training sessions were created over 18 years ago and hundreds of performers, including some from NFL, NBA and MLB clubs, have attended the weekend seminars.

“Minor League Baseball is proud to welcome Dave Raymond’s Mascot Boot Camp to our beautiful facility, the Vero Beach Sports Village,” Minor League Baseball Executive VP & COO Tim Purpura said.

MiLB clubs will have a special rate available to them for this Mascot Boot Camp, which includes tuition and room and board at the 67-acre sports and conference center in Vero Beach.

Indian River County plans walking trail for former Dodgertown golf course

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The county is planning a major upgrade to the recently acquired defunct Dodgertown golf course. A roughly mile-long walking trail is slated to be carved out on the long-shuttered course, providing the public improved accessibility to the adjacent historic Jackie Robinson Training Complex with a pedestrian connection to 43rd Avenue and Aviation Boulevard. The proposed walking trail, which has yet to be designed and could be longer than a mile upon completion, will likely include a pedestrian bridge connection to the cloverleaf fields and a new tree line buffer along 43rd Avenue, according to county documents. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
