VERO BEACH — The Indian River Genealogical Society is pleased to announce the debut of a newly published collection of vintage photographs that depict Indian River County’s early development. The author, Ellen E. Stanley, was the coordinator of the popular postcard history of the county published by Arcadia Publishing in 2007.
The company was so pleased with its sales that they approached Stanley three years ago, requesting her authorship of this volume in its “Images of America” Series.
Stanley, a seven-year resident of Sebastian and retired librarian, holds two degrees from the University of Florida, a BA in English and a Masters of Education in Personnel Services. She received a second Masters in Library Science from the University of South Florida. She is the past Regent of the Saint Sebastian Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and curator of the Sebastian Area Historical Museum.
The IRGS will meet Tuesday, October 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the large conference room of the Indian River County Main Library in Vero Beach. Following a brief business session and refreshments, the program will begin at 10:30 a.m. Both meeting and program are free and open to the public.
Long-time IRC residents, history buffs and members are in for a real treat, as Stanley’s new book is filled with little known facts and seldom seen photographs from the late 1800s to 1930.
