FELLSMERE — Current Fellsmere City Councilman Joel Tyson is the first Fellsmere resident to qualify in the November municipal election.
Councilmen Fernando Herrera and Daniel Naranjo are also up for re-election. Herrera has said that he plans to file for the race. In the event that all three council members file for re-election and no one opposes them, they will be declared winners of the election.
That scenario most recently played out last November when Mayor Susan Adams and Councilwoman Sara Savage both filed for re-election and went unopposed.
No election was held in Fellsmere last November for that reason.
However, this November, Fellsmere voters will go to the polls regardless of whether there are council members to vote for.
They will be asked to choose two county commissioners between the winners of the Aug. 24 primary and the Democratic or Independent challengers, as well as a school board member representing District 5, among other offices.
The Fellsmere municipal election qualifying period runs now through Sept. 3. Anyone wishing to file for the election should contact Fellsmere City Clerk Debbie Krages, who serves as the city’s Supervisor of Elections.
Krages can be reached by calling (772) 571-1616.
