SEBASTIAN – Sebastian resident and businessman Harvey Wheeler is trying again for a seat on the Sebastian City Council dais.
“I, like many others, have felt a disconnect between citizens and our government,” he said in a prepared statement. Wheeler wants to be “the people’s Council Member,” he said.
Wheeler ran for a seat on the council in 2008, along with eight other residents – including Mayor Richard Gillmor and Vice Mayor Jim Hill – who handily won their current seats.
Gillmor filed for re-election earlier this week. Hill has not publicly announced his intentions.
Wheeler said he would bring a common sense approach to the dais and would seek “fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability.”
The qualifying period for the Sebastian City Council election is from Aug. 19 to Sept. 3. Sebastian Council candidates run citywide for 2-year terms. The race is non-partisan.
